Elizabeth (Libby) Carlile

July 12, 1916 — September 26, 1991

Elizabeth (Libby) Carlile, 75, of Meadville, a 40-year Crawford County Red Cross volunteer, died Thursday, September 26, 1991, at her residence after an extended illness.

She was born in Waverly, TN, July 12, 1916, a daughter of Lawrence T. and Myrtle Anderson Marlowe.  She married Alfred (Ted) E. Carlile, May 6, 1950.  He preceded her in death May 23, 1987.

She was a homemaker.  She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal.  She was a former president of Meadville Anitque Study Club, Women's Literary Club and Meadville Garden Club.  She was an active member of the Crawford County Red Cross and served on its board of directors.  She was on the Crawford County Historical Society's board of directors.  She was curator of the Baldwin Reynolds House for many years, helping in its preservation and restoration.  She also initiated the bi-annual Trees of Christmas at the house.  She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include three stepsons, Ted Carlile Jr. of Ormond, FL, Clayton Carlile of Pametto, FL and Col. Bruce Carlile of Del Valle, TX; a brother, T.A. Marlowe of Tampa, FL; two nieces and a nephew.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Anne Morris.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Her cremated remains were placed with her late husband's in a columbarium at Christ Church Episcopal, the development of which was one of her last major interests.
