Elizabeth F. Shaffer

Elizabeth F. Shaffer, 92, formerly of Park Ave. and a resident of Rolling Fields Nursing Home since July 2004 died there Tuesday, December 7, 2004.

She was born in Tarentum, PA October 6, 1912 a daughter of Victor H. and Lillian Powell Fleck.  She married John U. Shaffer September 30, 1907 and he preceded her in death September 25, 1980.

She worked as a secretary at Allegheny College for 15 years.  She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, a former member of Business and Professional Women, Meadville Women’s Club, Crawford County Historical Society, John Brown Heritage Society and the local and regional Health Council.  She was a past officer of AARP and former board member of the Senior Center and the Crawford County Council on Aging.  She also attended Hood College.

Survivors, include two sisters, Anna Mary Maddy and her husband Richard of Chapel Hill, NC and Nancy Oyler and her husband John of Mt. Lebanon and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas R. Shaffer.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Meadville Public Library, 848 N. Main Street, Meadville or the Meadville Memorial Tree Fund, City of Meadville, 984 Water Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
