Elizabeth L. Joyce

May 14, 1909 — January 1, 1753

Elizabeth L. Joyce, 77, of Sandy Lake, August 24, 1986, at Greenville Regional Hospital following a short illness.

She was born in Castle Shannon, Allegheny County, May 14, 1909, a daughter of Samuel and Effie DeFrance Mahle.  She married Ralph F. Joyce March 14, 1939.

Mrs. Joyce graduated from Clarion State College in 1927 and from Pennsylvania State University in 1931.  She was employed by Talon Inc. from 1934 to 1938.  She then taught in Miola, Kerrtown, Vernon Township Schools and Meadville Schools as a substitute teacher and school librarian.  She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and taught the church's Beacon of Light Sunday School class for 14 years.

She was past president of the Stone Church's Women's Society, served on the administration board of the Council of Churches and represented the church at annual conferences.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Rosemary A. Fjelland of Slater, Iowa and Kathleen C. Piacesi of Woodbridge, VA; two sons, David C. Joyce of Woodbridge and Hugh D. Joyce of Mr. Lebanon; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
