Elizabeth R. “Betty” Balizet, 94, of a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there, Sunday, May 26, 2002.
She was born November 25, 1907 in Meadville a daughter of George and Clara Wachsmuth Stolz. She married Edgar Balizet October 18, 1944 and he preceded her in death March 25, 1962.
She retired in 1977 after 25 years of service with Gelvin Jackson and Starr Insurance as an administrative assistant and customer service representative. She was a 1925 graduate of Meadville High School and a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church. She was a volunteer at the Meadville Medical Center and had the most volunteer hours in 2000. She was also a volunteer driver of cancer patients to Erie and a dedicated blood donor for many years to the American Red Cross’ blood drives.
Survivors, include a sister, Catherine Kost Waltenbaugh of Meadville; two step-daughters, Rita Ray and her husband Manny of Dallas, TX and Alexa Engel of Maybank, TX; two step-sons, Thomas Balizet and his wife Jean of Emporium, PA and Robert Balizet of Virginia; three nephews, several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Stolz.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. The Scripture Prayer Service will be Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville with Rev. Gregory Passauer as Celebrant.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
