Elizabeth R. Shields

Elizabeth R. Shields, 85, of 805 Alden Street, Meadville died Saturday, December 06, 2003 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

She was born in Chicago, IL December 2, 1918 a daughter of John and Ruth Broomfield Enright.  She married Rev. Owen W. Shields May 6, 1941 and he preceded her in death May 7, 1969.

Elizabeth devoted her life to the Lord, her family, church and education.  She held a degree in Christian Education from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL and taught in the Vandergrift and Erie public schools for 10 years.  She also taught for more that 10 years at Christian Haven Homes for troubled youth in Wheatfield, IN.  She was a loving and generous mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Beth Jasper and her husband Rev. Randy L. of Birmingham, AL and Ruth Ann Morgan and her husband Rev. David B. of Wolfeboro, NH; one son, William R. Shields and his wife Gloria of Meadville; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Shields of Meadville; three brothers, Ken Enright of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jack Enright of Hammond, IN and Roger Enright of Lansing, IL; three sisters, Ruth Ellen Wertz, Delores Kelly and Jane Jensen all of Lansing, IL, twelve grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sons Robert Earl Shields and John O. Shields and a brother, Bob Enright.

An hour of visitation will precede the service from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville.  The service will follow at 10:30 with Rev. Dr. James Durlesser, Pastor, officiating.

Additional services will be Wednesday at 2:30 at Stanton United Methodist Church, Stanton, PA with Rev. Randy L. Jasper and Rev. David B. Morgan, sons-in-law, officiating.

Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery at Windy Hill, Stanton, PA.

The family suggests memorials be made to Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
