Elizabeth S. Bailey, 88, of Meadville, died at home Wednesday, December 8, 2010.
She was born in Meadville, February 27, 1922 a daughter of Robert L. and Genevieve Miller Shryock. She married Robert M. Bailey May 7, 1942 and he preceded her in death May 14, 1986.
She was a graduate of Meadville High School and worked during her high school years at Shryock Dept. Store in downtown Meadville. Following her high school graduation, she attended Allegheny College until the outbreak of World War II at which time she went to work at the Keystone Ordinance Works to support the war effort.
Her family was very important to her. She was an attentive, devoted and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who was proud and pleased that most of the family still lived in the area.
She attended the Unitarian Universalist Church. She was an avid bridge player and participated in several bridge clubs, often playing with her sister-in-law and best friend, Carmen Shryock. She also was one of the first female pilots in N/W PA.
Survivors, include: two daughters, Barbara Phillis and her husband Fred of Meadville and Susan Leveto and her husband David of Saegertown; a son, Robert S. Bailey and his wife Patricia of Meadville; nine grandchildren, Bruce Leveto and his wife Lori, Greg Bailey and his wife Jill, Marcy Kellick and her husband John, Amanda Grantham and her husband Larry, Clayton Phillis and his wife Vicki, David J. Leveto, Paul Phillis and his wife Robin, Dan Bailey and Scott Phillis and his wife Amy; sixteen great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Jim, Gertrude, Josephine and John.
A private service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church with Rev. Carmen M. Emerson, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
