Elsbeth Laurena “Betty” Jackson Powell, 88, of Meadville died at home Wednesday, November 24, 2004.
She was born August 20, 1916 in Cleveland, OH a daughter of Perley and Elsie Jackson Jackson. She married Lawrence Edward Powell June 15, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1997.
She and her husband owned and operated Wheeler Auto Supply on State Rt. #102 for 35 years. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, decorating her house, her neighbors and her family. She also loved animals and many passed through her care over the years.
Survivors, include: her daughter, Ellen Wheeler Peterson and her husband Larry of Saegertown; Renee Kightlinger and her husband Rob of Meadville; her granddaughter, Susan Butler and her husband Pat of Meadville; her great grandsons, Aaron and Elliot Butler, several nieces and nephews and her dear friends, Jack and Garnette O’Neil of Sandy Lake.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Lee Powell, a grandson, Richard Peterson, three brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Murphy, officiating.
Burial will be in Cambridge Springs Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, 21601 Stull Road, Saegertown, PA 16433 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
