Elsie M. (Lee) Baker

May 12, 1930 — December 27, 2016

Elsie M. Baker, 86, of Saegertown, died peacefully Tuesday, December 27, 2016 surrounded by her family at the Marquette Hospice House, Meadville.

She was born in Corry May 12, 1930 a daughter of Edward A. and Nancy Rose Burlingame Lee.  She married William W. Baker April 24, 1953 and he preceded her in death October 16, 1996.

She was a 1948 graduate of Corry High School and she attended Edinboro University.  She and her husband owned and operated Baker’s Grocery Store and Gas Station in Blooming Valley for 33 years.  She was a very active member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School and leading a kids club for many years.  She was also a camp counselor at Wesley Woods church camp and volunteered on missions trips.  She enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ, was an avid walker and also enjoyed embroidery.  She also especially loved attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s school activities.

She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Marr and her husband Bruce of Blooming Valley and Darlene Dangel and her husband Edward of Meadville; two sons, James D. Baker of Harvest, Al and Ronald D. Baker of Blooming Valley; ten grandchildren, Beki, Ben, Rae, Wesley, Stefanie, Mandie, Josh, Stacey, Tyler and Luke; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Olive Sammons of Wattsburg, Alice Foltz of Centerville and Mary Ellen Jones and her husband Donald of Corry; a brother, Richard Lee and his wife Marty of Union City; a brother-in-law, Robert Mitchell of Erie and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Baker; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Baker and a sister, Agnes Mitchell.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Jay Koe, Pastor of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, 24740 State Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
