Elsie W. Boughton

Elsie W. Boughton, 94, formerly of Santa Barbara, CA and a resident of Hillside Home since June 1990 died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.

She was born in Sutton, NE, April 29, 1907 a daughter of William and Katherine Ochsner Wahl.  She married Dr. Newell W. Boughton and he preceded her in death.

She enjoyed music and regularly attended her husband’s band performances at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, NE during the late 1920’s and early 1930’s.  From approximately 1940 until 1965 she and her husband lived in Wareham, MA, where she was a member of the Wareham, MA Garden Club, Tobey Hospital Auxiliary of Wareham, MA and was an enthusiastic Boston Red Sox baseball fan.  From 1965 until 1990 she lived in Santa Barbara, CA where she played golf for many years and enjoyed gardening.    During World War II she was also active in USO work.

Survivors, include a son, Joe A. Boughton of Meadville; four grandchildren, David Boughton, William Boughton, Elizabeth Horning and Sarah Holt and eight great grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Vera Cunningham, Esther Thompson and Mildred Duncan and a brother, Kenneth Wahl.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at Hillside Home at a date to be determined.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hillside Home, 535 Williamson Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
