Elton J. Maloney

Elton J. Maloney, 94, formerly of Laird Ave. and Juniper Village, Meadville and a current resident of the Crawford County Care Center, died there Thursday, August 19, 2010.

He was born in Saegertown August 15, 1916, a son of the late Alfred and Mary Dain Maloney.  He married LaVerna Miller May 14, 1944 and she preceded him in death January 2, 1981.  He subsequently married Helen Pattison Freyermuth November 3, 1984 and she preceded him in death November 26, 2003.

Elton attended school in East Mead Township and was a 1935 graduate of Meadville High School.  Following graduation he worked at Talon, Inc., until he was drafted into the U.S. Army March 28, 1941.  He was a Veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged November 17, 1945.  He returned to work at Talon and retired September 1, 1978.

A member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where he formerly served as a deacon, he enjoyed golfing, playing cards, gardening, traveling and being around people.

Survivors include three sisters, Isabelle Dorwart, Mildred Huber and Wilma Campbell, all of Meadville and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Knight and four brothers, Harold, Orville, Auldrain, and Kenneth Maloney.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral and committal service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Martin Hardy, retired Pastor, officiating.  Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
