Emerson W. Christie, 81, of Adamsville, died Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Hartstown November 8, 1924, a son of the late Lloyd and Myra Bennett Christie. He had been married to Margaret Eddy and later married Dorothy Minnis March 16, 1956 and she preceded him in death October 9, 1993. He subsequently married Betty Merriman Courtney August 30, 1997.
He attended Allegheny College and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and Korea. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for over 33 years.
He was a member of Adamsville Presbyterian Church and church elder and was a former member of 43 years of Trinity United Methodist Church, Conneaut Lake.
He was a member of the Conneaut Lake American Legion Post 587, Greenville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374; Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842; National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees; member and past president of the Pennsylvania Rural Letter Carriers Assoc.; 50-year member of the Hartstown & Atlantic Grange; and was a former Red Coat volunteer at Meadville City Hospital. He was an avid reader and traveler and especially loved his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Betty, include a son, Alan Christie and his wife Carol of Stow, OH; a niece, Kimberly Christie of Conneaut Lake; a nephew, Robert Christie and his wife Patrice of Zolfo Springs, FL; 6 stepchildren, Raymond Courtney and his wife Linda, Phillip Courtney, Lee Courtney, Robb Courtney and his wife Barbara, Douglas Smith and his wife Bonnie, and Darcie Best and her husband Randy; 2 grandsons, Jeremy Christie and his wife Anna of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Scott Christie and his wife Kristine of Stow, OH; 9 step-grandchildren, Chris, Jolene, Randall, Rory, Kyle, Kayla, Hannah, Philip, and Jason; 3 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Keira, and Jeremy; and 2 great-nephews, Michael and Brian Nageotte. In addition to his parents and wife Dorothy, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Gordon Christie; 1 nephew; and 1 niece.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake.
A funeral service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David Brumagin, Associate Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating assisted by the Rev. Bryan Snyder, Pastor of Adamsville Presbyterian Church.
Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
