Emma Blanchard Smith

May 13, 1905 — December 13, 1978

Mrs. Emma Blanchard Smith, 73, wife of Huber L. Smith, of Meadville, died Wednesday, December 13, 1978, at City Hospital after an extended illness.

A daughter of Judson L. and Helena Ferringer Blanchard, she was born May 13, 1905.  She married Smith May 19, 1935.  A 1924 graduate of Meadville High School, she attended Allegheny College and graduated from Edinboro State College in 1928.  She taught for 11 years in Crawford County one-room schools, and after raising her family, resumed teaching in Saegertown schools for 13 years before retiring in 1969.  She was a member of Crawford County Retired Teachers Assn., Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Assn. and Mead Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.  She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1915.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Donnalee) Dennis of Conneaut Lake; a son, Dr. David I. Smith of Brockport, NY; two sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Margaret) Barr and Miss Helena Blanchard of Meadville; a brother, Dr. Donovan C. Blanchard of Franklin and five grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
