Miss Emma Jane Bedell, 91, oldest resident of the Methodist Home for the Aged in number of years of membership, died Monday, March 2, 1964. She entered the Ida M. Cribbs Methodist Home at Conneautville, July 1, 1937, and moved to Meadville when the home changed its location on July 7, 1952.
Miss Bedell was born at Schodack, NY, April 20, 1872, a daughter of William H. and Charity Waterbury Bedell. A graduate of Albany Business College, Albany, NY, she also attended Albany Normal School which later became New York State University and was certified as a public school teacher.
She taught in New York rural schools for 25 years before serving as typist-clerk for 10 years for the New York State Department of Education at Albany. Although she had been confined to her room at the home for the past 10 years, her interest in local and world affairs continued until within the past few months. In her correspondence are a number of letters from famous people throughout the US.
Miss Bedell was a member of the Methodist Church at East Greenbush, NY.
Services were held at the Methodist Home Chapel.
Interment was in Methodist Home Cemetery at Conneautville.
