Emma Jane Smith

Mrs. Emma Jane Smith, 83, of Meadville, died suddenly at Meadville City Hospital on Tuesday, July 7, 1970.

She was born in East Mead Township, May 27, 1887, a daughter of Eben and Lucy Peterman Hamilton.  She married Leslie R. Smith on November 28, 1905.  He died in 1965.

The Smiths farmed in East Mead Township all their lives.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Wayland Baptist Church and Kiser Hill-Mead Grange.  She was a graduate of Edinboro State Normal School.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Vance (Lena) Mattocks of Meadville, Mrs. Jess (Viola) Maines of Meadville, Mrs. Paul (Virginia) Goodman of Meadville and Mrs. Milton (Lucinda) Van Slyke of Downey, CA; three sons, Arnold of Meadville, Stanley C. of Canton, OH and Wilfred of Meadville; thirty-one grandchildren; fifty-seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
