Ernest Edgar Melvin, 52, old city labor leader died at this home on Vernon Street, Saturday afternoon following a period of failing health.
A machinist for the past 25 years at the McCrosky Employees Federal Credit Union; recording secretary of Pine Tree Local 1941, International Assn. of Machinist; vice president of the Central Labor Union and served as chairman of a recent labor education conference at Allegheny College.
He was member of Stone Methodist Church, Cussewago Lodge 108, IOOF; Vernon Township VFD; Lodge 408, F and AM; Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191; NW Commandery 25, Knights Templar.
The son of Edgar and Zora Fleming Melvin, he spent his early life in Guys Mills moving to Meadville in 1939. He graduated from Randolph High School and attended Allegheny College.
He is survived by his widow, Ethel; two daughters, Miss Gladys and Miss Esther at home; two sisters, Mrs. R. J. Parker of Cortland, OH and Mrs. Martin Hittle of Greenville; a brother, Clyde of Saegertown and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
