Esther Ann Brooks

Esther Ann (Gelvin) Brooks, age 95, of Conneaut Lake, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 10, 2025. 

Born April 12, 1929, in East Fallowfield Township, Esther was the daughter of Stanley and Pauline (Blue) Gelvin. 

Esther graduated from the former East Fallowfield School in May 1947. She married William Harold Brooks on June 7, 1947, who survives. Esther and Bill celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary on June 6, 2024. 

She was a homemaker who loved to cook, bake, knit, crochet, sew and do puzzles, especially Sudoku. Esther and her husband loved to travel and visited all 50 states. She was an avid golfer and bowler and was inducted into the Western Crawford County Hall of Fame in 1988. She especially loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards and bingo.

Along with her husband, Esther served on the W.C.C.B.A. Board for 35 years as Secretary; a member of Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church; and a life member of the Linesville VFW Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband William, Esther is survived by her sister, Mary Jordan (John); son, Lary Brooks (Eloise) and daughter, Sylvia Muha (Thomas); 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Baxter (Dave), William Brooks (Helen), Laurie Brooks, and Justin Rhoades; 5 great-grandchildren, Chance Scobbo, Tyler and Bailey Brooks, and Tanner and Morgan Rhoades; and one great-great-grandchild Gianna.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Thomas, Edwin, Earl and Ronald: two sisters, Lois Murphy and Norma Brown.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 1-15-2025 at 1:00 p.m. in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake with Rev. Sam Heagy, Pastor of Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church, officiating. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, 1-15-2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The burial will be private in Rocky Glen Cemetery, Adamsville.
