Esther "Toots" Schell

Esther “Toots” Schell, 89, of Sandy Lake, passed away peacefully at Wesbury Nursing Home in Meadville, Pa. on Wednesday (October 20, 2021). Esther was born on May 4, 1932, to the late Frank and Esther Brown Zimmer in Pittsburgh, PA. She attended Sandy Lake schools and then graduated in 1950 from Sandy Lake High School. In her early years she worked as a clerk at the 5 & 10 store in Sandy Lake. After raising her boys, she worked as an elementary teacher’s aide in the Lakeview School District for over twenty years, retiring in 1993. Esther was a long-time dedicated member of the Sandy Lake United Presbyterian Church. She was extremely devoted to her entire family, but especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, roller skating, square dancing, visiting local casinos, playing cards with friends, supporting her children and grandchildren in activities and sports, and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates. She is survived by her loving husband, Henry P. Schell, who she married on Oct. 26, 1953. She will also be deeply missed by her two sons, Mark (Alexa) of Stoneboro, PA and Scott (Kim) of Cochranton, PA; five grandchildren, Michelle Hankinson (Steve) Pittsburgh, PA, Nicole Bair (Shawn), Pittsburgh, PA, Kate Keller (Patrick) Stoneboro, PA, Derek Schell (Becka), Stoneboro, PA, and Brielle Schell, Cochranton, PA; three great-grandchildren, Copelan and Collins Keller and Leni Schell, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by three sisters, Julia Slater, Agnes Barnes and Ellen Cauvel, and two brothers, James Zimmer and Duncan Zimmer. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc, 3236 S. Main Street, SANDY LAKE, where family and friends are welcome from 4 pm – 7 pm on Friday, October 22, and from 10 am – 11 am on Saturday, October 23, with a funeral service to follow at 11 am with the Rev. Beth Creekpaum, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be private In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Sandy Lake United Presbyterian Church, P.O.
