Miss Ethel A. Andrews, 96, a resident of the Margaret Wagner House, Cleveland, died suddenly Thursday, February 7, 1980 at University Hospital, Cleveland.
Born in Meadville, Miss Andrews was the daughter of Robert and Emma Dickson Andrews. She was a 1908 graduate of Allegheny College where she was elected a Phi Beta Kappa member. Miss Andrews was the oldest living member of the Kappa Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at Allegheny until her death.
Prior to her residence at Margaret Wagner House, Miss Andrews resided for six years with her niece, Mrs. Philip (Carol Andrews) Richmond in Cleveland.
Miss Andrews also studied at Middlebury College in Vermont, Harvard, Columbia and Western Reserve Universities and at Oxford University in England.
She retired in 1952 after teaching for 29 years at the Laurel School for Girls in Shaker Heights, OH, where she had been the head of the English department. Following retirement, Miss Andrews conducted private tutoring at Laurel School until the age of 87. She also wrote "Roots and Branches," a history of the first 50 years of Laurel School.
Survivors, in addition to Mrs. Richmond, include two additional nieces, Rebecca Lord of Meadville and Mrs. David (Marian) Camaron of Sebring, OH; and a nephew, C. Parker Lord of Baltimore, MD.
Services were held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral with Rev. Dr. Arthur M. Crawford, officiating.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
