Ethel Kleckner Ewing

March 16, 1894 — February 22, 1955

Mrs. Ethel K. Ewing, 61, of Meadville, teacher of third grade at Second District School, died early this morning at City Hospital, where she had been a patient for five weeks.

The former Ethel Kleckner, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Sarah Cole Kleckner.  She was born at Cambridge Springs, and at periods in her life had resided at Kinzua and Venango, before coming to Meadville in 1912.  She was graduated from Allegheny College in 1916, and taught in various localities, including 10 years in Meadville schools.

She was assigned to Second District school when she became ill.

During World War II, Mrs. Ewing was associated with the late Mrs. Henry P. Kidder in a privately supported program for relief in Holland.  Large quantities of clothing and other needed supplies were sent, various church and community groups cooperating in collecting and packing these articles at Mrs. Kidder's home.

A member of Grace United Methodist Church, she served on its official board, and was a member of the Philathea Class and Evening Circle, Woman's Society of Christian Service.  SHe had been superintendent of the young people's department in the church school and had taught adult classes for several years.  She was a member of the Cribbs Home, Aux., and a past vice president of the Meadville Federated Missionary Societies.

Other affiliations were with Mead Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; the American Assn. of University Women and Young Women's Christian Assn.

Mrs. Ewing is survived, besides her husband, by a son, Kenneth R. of Niagara Falls, NY; two grandchildren, and a brother, J. L. Kleckner of Meadville.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Cambridge Cemetery.
