Ethel May Phipps

January 22, 1894 — April 13, 1982

Mrs. Ethel May Phipps, 88,  a resident of United Methodist Nursing Home and Hospital since November 21, 1967, and formerly of Townville, widow of the Rev. Lee R. Phipps, died at the home Tuesday, April 13, 1982, following an extended illness.

She was born at Fulton, KS, January 22, 1894, a daughter of Robert and Maria Orr Wyatt.  She married Phipps in 1923.  He died in 1964.

Mrs. Phipps attended Methodist University at Guthrie, OK.  She taught school before her marriage and also worked as a stenographer in Washington, DC.  A 1923 graduate of Kansas City National Training School for Deaconesses and Missionaries, she worked for a time as a deaconess in Kansas City, MO and Picher, OK.

Mrs. Phipps is survived by a step-daughter, Miss Sarah Leola Phipps of Farrell; two sisters, Mrs. Tyne Rolling of Perry, OK and Mrs. Helen Mateer of Riverside, CA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Clintonville Methodist Church Cemetery, Venango County.
