Ethel D. (Ross) Shirey

Ethel D. Ross Shirey, 101, of Meadville died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

She was born in Sharon October 8, 1907 a daughter of Willard and Mabel Ellis Deater.  She married Miles D. Ross in 1931 and he preceded her in death in 1979.  She subsequently married Fred Shirey July 27, 1980 and he preceded her in death November 9, 1986.

She was a homemaker but, had worked right after high school at Talon and the former Merchants Bank.  She was a 1926 graduate of Meadville High School and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including: Fred and Stella Deater of Meadville, Jon Deater, David and Penny Deater and Mary and Bruce Wheeler all of Linesville, Diane and Ken Elliot of Rochester, NY and a sister-in-law, Doris Deater of Meadville.

In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by a son, Miles Robert Ross, two brothers, Willard Deater and Paul Deater and two sisters, Mildred James and Olive Lorena Deater.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral and committal service will follow at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
