Eva L. Dearment

September 30, 1853 — September 20, 1955

Mrs. Eva L. DeArment, believed to be the oldest person in Crawford County, died early Tuesday morning at City Hospital.  She would have observed her 102nd birthday on September 30.

Mrs. DeArment had been a patient at the hospital for more than six years.  She was admitted after suffering a hip fracture in August, 1949.

She is survived by two grandsons, William A. and George S. DeArment and four great-grandchildren, all of Meadville.

The former Eva L. Whiting, Mrs. DeArment was the widow of George B. DeArment, founder of the Champion Tool Co., which in 1925 became the Champion DeArment Tool Co.  The couple lived in Conneaut Lake prior to 1904, when they moved to Meadville and lived for a time on Terrace Street.  In 1907, they remodeled the building which contained beams of the first house ever built in Meadville for the family of David Mead.

Her husband died in 1917.  The business was carried on by his sons, J. Howard and Almon W., now dead.  It is now the responsibility of his grandsons.

Mrs. DeArment was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
