Evelyn C. Runnels

August 5, 1911 — February 14, 2002

Evelyn C. Runnels, 90, formerly of Maple Lane and Gilmore St., Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center since 1989 died there Thursday, February 14, 2002 following a period of declining health.

She was born in Mill Village, PA, August 5, 1911 a daughter of the Hiram F. and Ethyl Chapin Canfield.  She married George W. Runnels, Jr. May 18, 1935 and he preceded her in death October 17, 1973.

She worked as Ward secretary at the former Meadville City Hospital and previously worked as a sales representative and regional manager for World Book Encyclopedia.

She attended Birmingham Southern College, Birmingham, AL.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Meadville, a former member of the Cambridge Springs PTA, Past President of the Pennsylvania PTA, a member of the Gam Sac Ma Club of Cambridge Springs, a former volunteer at Meadville City Hospital and the American Cancer Society’s Public Relations Committee.

Survivors, include a son, Richard G. Runnels and his wife Patty of Meadville; two grandchildren, Gregory R. Runnels and his wife Rose and Kathryn Cartier and her husband Steve; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville where services will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David R. Hosick, officiating.

Burial will be in Mill Village Cemetery, Mill Village, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
