Evelyn G. Jones

Evelyn G. Jones, 90, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, died Wednesday October 10, 2001, at Meadville Medical Center.

She was born in South Fork, Cambria County, PA, August 3, 1911, a daughter of Albert and Eleanor Sharpless Hobbs. She married Lyle E. Jones June 20, 1936, and he preceded her in death January 12, 1991.

She was a 1930 graduate of Indiana University of PA and taught school for 26 years retiring in 1973, from Meadville School District having taught at Neason Hill, Second District, and North End schools.

She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ and a former member of the United Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer, having taught Sunday School there for 20 years.  She was a 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of Golden Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; a former member and Past Worthy High Priestess of Trinity White Shrine #33, and former member and Past Royal Matron of the Order of the Amaranth.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Nageotte and her husband James of Saegertown, 4 sons, Neil A. Jones and his wife Judith of Saegertown, Lyle E. Jones and his wife Norma, of Meadville, Lee E. Jones and his wife Marie of Burlington, Vermont, and Gary L. Jones and his wife Laura of Conneaut Lake; 16 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren; 1 brother George T. Hobbs and his wife Dottie, of Meadview, Arizona.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

Friends may call Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St. where Eastern Star Services will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. and funeral and committal services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m.  Officiating will be the Rev. Timothy Solomon, pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
