Evelyn J. Weidaw

August 27, 1920 — October 10, 2004

Evelyn Jeanne Weidaw, 84, of 744 Leberman Ave., Meadville (formerly

of Greenbelt, MD, and Alexandria, VA), died Sunday, October 10, 2004, at

UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, from complications following heart surgery.

She was born August 27, 1920, in Union City, New Jersey, a daughter of William and Adele Diekman Zahn.  She married Clarence “Son” Albert Weidaw June 12, 1947 and he preceded her in death August 28, 1989.

After graduation from high school, she attended art school, and then served in the Women's Army Corps during WW II as a technical illustrator in cartography serving in France and England.

Prior to moving to Meadville she and her husband operated a variety store from 1965-1980 in Greenbelt, MD.  The past 20 years while living in Meadville she was renowned for winning prizes in local quilt shows and using her superb culinary skills to contribute to events at the First Church of God, of which she was a member, and the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Love Circle. An accomplished seamstress, she lovingly donated many beautiful needlework creations to friends and relatives, and viewed her sewing for others as a form of community service.  When not cooking and sewing she enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble online with her daughter Elissa.

Survivors, include; two daughters Adele Evelyn Weidaw Wilson of Fort Ashby, WV, and Elissa Marie Weidaw of Reston, VA; one stepdaughter Joy Weidaw Link of Meadville; four grandchildren Rebecca Sue Link of Erie, PA, Katherina Gonzales of Washington, D.C., and Kody and Chelsea Whipple of Port Townsend, WA and her Silky Terrier, Lucy.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Desiree Jeanne Weidaw Whipple.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of God, 13226 Leslie Rd., Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Temple Jarrell, officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of God Building Fund, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
