Evelyn N. Nelson

March 1, 1892 — April 6, 1966

Mrs. Evelyn N. Nelson, a 1915 graduate of Allegheny College, and active in many community organizations, died Wednesday, April 6, 1966, at her home in Meadville after a brief illness.  She was 74.

A native of Meadville, she was born March 1, 1892, a daughter of Elmer H. and Elizabeth Maffit Norris, and married Benn Nelson June 14, 1920.  He died in 1945.

Mrs. Nelson graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Allegheny and was honored in June 1965 as a 50-year alumna.  In her early years, she taught school at New Castle and Meadville.

She was a member of Stone Methodist Church and its Wesleyan Service Guild.

Mrs. Nelson was a charter member of the following local organizations:  Meadville Woman's Club, Crawford County Community Council, Vallonia Industries and Home Decorators Guild.

A past worthy matron of Allegheny Court 115, Order of the Amaranth, Mrs. Nelson was a member of its past officers club.  She also was a member of the past officers club of Trinity White Shrine having served as Past Worthy High Prirestess of its Shrine 33, White Shrine of Jerusalem.

She was a member of Golden Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; the Charles N. Stafford Post, American Legion Aux.; and past regent of Col. Crawford Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

A son, Elmer N. Nelson of Meadville, survives.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
