Evelyn Virginia Watson

March 22, 1924 — May 31, 2002

Evelyn Virginia Watson, 78, of 204 Delta Oaks Way, Sacramento, CA and formerly of Meadville died Friday, May 31, 2002 at Methodist Hospital, Sacramento, CA.

She was born March 22, 1924 in Philippi, WV a daughter of the late John Holman and Martha MacConnell Bailey.  She married Sherman Lowell Watson, Sr., MD, July 17, 1948 in Ford Chapel, Allegheny College and he survives.

She spent most of her early life in the Meadville area graduating from Meadville High School and in 1946 from Allegheny College with a BA in English.  She and her family moved west in 1959 first living in Rochester, MN where she worked as a secretary at the Mayo Clinic and editor of a clinic technical journal.  She and her family eventually settled in Sacramento, CA where she worked as a substitute teacher in the area elementary schools.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 53 years, include a son, Sherman L. Watson, Jr. and his wife Marci of Sacramento, CA; a daughter, Ruth Hunter of Tacoma, WA; a sister, Martha Bailey of San Antonio, TX; a brother, John H. Bailey II, MD and his wife Betty of Meadville; five grandchildren, Joel Watson, Matt Watson, Amy Hunter, Brian Hunter and Lori Hunter and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph S. Bailey and Robert M. Bailey.

An hour of calling will be Saturday June 15th from 10-11 am at the Cribb’s Home Chapel of Wesbury United Methodist Community.  The service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of New Richmond United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.

The arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
