F. William Battaglia, 85, former Meadville Postmaster, of Tucson, AZ, died Friday, September 25, 1998, in Tucson.
He was born in Meadville, April 25, 1913, a son of Frank J. and Sarah A. McCabe Battaglia.
He was a 1929 graduate of St. Agatha's High School and a 1933 graduate of Allegheny College.
He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church in Meadville, Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Tuscon and Our Lady of Lourdes in Benson, AZ.
A 38-year employee of the US Postal Service, he served as postmaster of Meadville from 1963 until his retirement in 1972. Following retirement he began a career for several years selling real estate in Meadville.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He was also active for many years in the Parent-Teacher Assoc., the Pennsylvania State Grange and the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marie Antionette Poux Battaglia; six children, Mark E. Battaglia (Mary) of Benson, Carol A. Coon (Ronald) of Meadville, Kathleen B. Crawford (James) of Benson, John F Battaglia of Meadville, Marcia Jeanne Wyman (William) of Rotonda, FL, and R. Kevin Battaglia (Norma) of Tucson; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Leonardm and Bernard Battaglia; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Battaglia.
Interment was in St. Hippolyte Cemetery, Frenchtown.
