Fianna S. Vanderhoof

June 25, 1916 — March 5, 1997

Fianna S. Vanderhoof, 80, a resident of Corry Manor Nursing Home, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997 following a period of declining health.

She was born June 25, 1916 in Union City, a daughter of the late G. Clinton and Sena Nelson Sheldon.  She married Howard L. Smith, March 12, 1934.  He died December 8, 1986.

Mrs. Vanderhoof was raised and educated in the Corry and Spartansburg areas.  During World War II, she worked for 2 1/2 years at the Aero Supply Co. and later was employed at Corry Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department for 7 1/2 years.  She was also a homemaker.

She was a former member, Sunday School teacher and church clerk at Spartansburg Baptist Church.  She was a former democratic committee woman in Sparta Township where she lived for almost 50 years, boy scout den mother, member of Senior Citizens Golden Age Club, and member of Corry Memorial Hospital Ladies Aux.  She loved cats and birds and enjoyed her hobbies of handcrafts, crocheting and corresponding with many pen pals.

Survivors include nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James M. Sheldon.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg.
