Flay Gifford Knapp

July 31, 1908 — May 17, 1963

Flay Gifford Knapp, 54, of Meadville, died Friday, May 17, 1963, at City Hospital following an illness of two years.

He was born near Brookville July 31, 1908, a son of Oliver and Margaret Peters Knapp and married the former Lucy White.

Mr. Knapp had been employed as a power house operator in the engineering department at the local American Viscose Corp. plant since 1929.  He was a charter member of the Textile Workers Organizing Committee.  He was also a  member of the Textile Workers Union of America, Local 8 and Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving, in addition to his widow, are a daughter, Mrs. Elaine Iken of Meadville; a son, Ronald G. Knapp of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Martha) Hart of Olean, NY, Mrs. Joseph (Alice) Beck of East Hartford, CT and Mrs. William (Betty) Covell of Marienville; a brother, George Knapp of Franklin; and four grandchildren, Crystal Ann and Sue Anne Iken, both of Meadville, Dennis G. and Julia Lynn Knapp, both of Cuyahoga Falls.

A sister, Mrs. John (Bertha) Silvis, died in March.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
