Florence F. Maitland

Florence F. Maitland, formerly of Meadville and a resident of Spring Hill Retirement Community, Erie died at Forest View Nursing Home, Erie Saturday, September 20, 2003.

She was born in Burtville (Potter Co.), PA a daughter of William and Agnes Martin Farrell.  She married Leon R. Maitland July 1, 1937 and he preceded her in death.

She was a math teacher and a guidance counselor in the Crawford Center School District retiring in 1976.  She was a 1930 graduate of Kinzua High School and she received her Bachelor degree and Masters degree in 1967 from Edinboro University.  She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Meadville, National, PA and Crawford Co. Chapter of the Retired Teachers Assoc., Golden Crown Chapter Order of Easter Star, charter member and past officer of Order of the Amaranth and a member of the Crawford County Humane Society and the AARP.  She was a former member of the American Assoc. of University Women and the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority (Honorary education sorority).  This past August she was honored by the PA Association of School Retirees for her teaching ability, dedication and volunteerism.

Survivors, include a daughter, Judith M. Green of Erie; two grandsons, Adam Michael Green and Noah Russell Green both serving in the US Navy; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a brother, W. Donald Farrell.

The memorial service will be Saturday, November 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 17045 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville.

A reception will follow at Meadville Elks Club, 15438 State Hwy. #86, Meadville, PA

The family suggests memorials be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335, the Erie Playhouse, 13 W. 10th Street, Erie, PA 16501, or the Spring Hill Senior Living Memorial Fund, 2323 Edinboro Road Erie, PA 16509.
