Mrs. Florence Grauel Miller, widow of Frank P. Miller, died at St. Mary's Hospital, San Francisco, Tuesday, April 1, 1969, after an extended illness. A former resident of Meadville, she moved to California about 25 years ago.
She was born in Greenville on June 18, 1884, a daughter of William S. and Mary F. Grauel. She graduated from Allegheny High School, Pittsburgh and from Allegheny College, with honors, in 1908. In 1909, she married Frank P. Miller, president of McCrosky Tool Corp., state senator from this district, and prominent civic leader in Meadville. He died in 1943.
Mrs. Miller is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Virginia M. Shaffer of San Francisco; three grandsons, John, Stuart and William Shaffer; two great-grandchildren, Tracy and Christopher Shaffer and a sister, Mrs. Robert W. Thomas of Meadville.
She was a former member of Stone United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Meadville Woman's Club, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, scholastic fraternity and Kappa Alpha Theta, social fraternity. She also was a member of the National League of American Penwomen and of the American Assn. of University Women of San Francisco.
Mrs. Miller was the author of a number of books, short stories, plays and pageants. Her poems appear in the Pennsylvania Poet's volume. Two published books were Following the Gleam and Our Own Pioneers. The latter being used for a number of years as a textbook on the Meadville public schools.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
