Florence I. Wilcox, 83, formerly of Guys Mills and a resident of Beverly Health Care Meadville, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Meadville Medical Center
She was born in Saxonburg (Butler Co.), December 19, 1925 a daughter of Fred O. and Emma J. Kiser Young. She first married Robert O. Shorts. She subsequently married Max G. Wilcox January 23, 1960 and he preceded her in death January 11, 1992.
She was a very hard worker all her life and loved baking. She was most known for her Bake Shop at the Market House. She had also worked as a baker at Perkins, Sandalini’s and the Park Way Diner. In her early years she had also worked at the Keystone Ordinance Works, the David Mead Inn and City Hospital.
Survivors, include: a daughter, Peggy Smith of Meadville; a son, Spencer G. Wilcox and his wife Tracy of Guys Mills; a step-son, Max G. Wilcox, Jr. of Akron, OH; a sister, Geraldine Gualtieri of Erie; eight grandchildren, David McGee, John McGee, Jeff Darling, Todd Darling, Brian Darling, Rob Pipper, Jennifer Wilcox and Matt Wilcox; four step-grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Pipper; a granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Darling; a sister, Pat Beers and a brother, Joseph Young.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Murphy, retired United Methodist minister, officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
