Florence Mason Joyce Jones

August 24, 1902 — January 25, 1964

Mrs. Florence Mason Joyce Jones, 61, wife of Floyd Leo Jones, of Meadville, librarian at First District and East End schools, died Saturday, January 25, 1964, at Warren State Hospital following an illness of several months.

She was born at Syracuse, NY, August 24, 1902, a daughter of Charles Mason and Nellie Greenleaf Joyce, and married Jones July 30, 1950.

Mrs. Jones had been affiliated with Meadville school system since 1934.  She had been librarian at First District and East End schools since September 1958.  She organized the libraries at First District  and East End in 1940.  She was on sabbatical leave at the time of her death.

Mrs. Jones taught two years at Windsor, NY and five years at Oxford, NY.

She received her AB degree from Allegheny College in 1926 and her BS degree in library science in 1945 from Syracuse University School of Library Science, graduating magna cum laude.

She was a member of numerous professional and social organizations.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a stepson, Lawrence L. Jones of White Rock, NM; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Thoburn of Ames, Iowa; a brother, Ralph F. Jones of Meadville; a step-granddaughter, Nancy Lee Jones and four nephews and two nieces.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Smith Cemetery.
