Florence S. Thomas

October 25, 1897 — April 5, 1995

Florence S. Thomas, 97, of St. Paul Homes in Greenville, formerly of Meadville and Diamond, died Wednesday April 5, 1995, at the residence.

She was born in Cherry Tree Township, Venango County, October 25, 1897, a daughter of Elmer and Elizabeth Newson Stevenson.  She married Herbert C. Thomas, October 25, 1916.  He preceded her in death in May 1949.

She had worked in the laundry department at Polk State School.  She and her husband built and operated a grocery store and gas station at Diamond.  She retired from Allegheny College where she had been employed in food service.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, charter member of the former World War I Veterans Aux., member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Aux. and Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, all of Meadville.

Survivors include a son, Arthur G. Thomas of Greenville; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Gerald (Helen) Swab of Cochranton.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald W. Thomas; two sisters, Elizabeth Crawford and Lillie Shepard and four brothers, Walter, Ralph, Floyd and Charles Stevenson.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Diamond Cemetery.
