Floyd E. Walter

February 4, 1925 — June 20, 2002

Floyd E. Walter, 77, of Guys Mills, went home to his Lord and Savior on June 20, 2002 after a 13 month courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born February 4, 1925 in Corsica (Jefferson Co.), PA a son of Perle L. and Nettie Faye Rankin Walter, Sr.  He married Louise V. Miller on October 10, 1946.

He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army.  He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Clarion University, his master’s degree and Superintendent’s letter from the University of Pittsburgh and completed additional graduate work at Penn State University.

He began his teaching career in 1950 at the former Wayland School.  Later he became Elementary Principal at Randolph-East Mead School, then Supervising Principal there.  In 1971 he was named Superintendent of Penncrest School District, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, where he served in many positions including choir member.  He received great joy from his family, especially the “little ones.”  He enjoyed gardening and woodworking, making many pieces of furniture for family members.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Louise, of 55 years, include: a daughter, Janet Crago and her husband Bob of Guys Mills; a grandson, David Crago and his wife Lisa of Townville; a granddaughter, Tricia Skinner and her husband Rick of Titusville; five great-grandchildren, Sydney, Meredith and Mark Crago and Kai and Cade Skinner.  He is also survived by five brothers, Lester Walter of New Regal, OH, Ronald Walter of Brookville, Perle Walter, Jr. of Corsica and Roger and Thomas Walter both of Sigel and four sisters, Glendora Campbell of Brookville, Elva Kay Fryer of Corsica, Blueni Hannold and Linda Wamsley both of Sigel and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy Weyant and a brother, Richard Walter.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills with the Rev. Mark Kimball, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.

The family suggests memorials be made to the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, P.O. Box 26, Guys Mills, PA 16327.
