Forest Willard Goodwill

October 15, 1916 — September 17, 2011

Forest Willard Goodwill, 94, of Sebring, FL for the past 25 years and formerly of Saegertown, died peacefully Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Hope Hospice, Sebring surrounded by his family.

He was born in Hydetown October 15, 1916, a son of Clifton and Flossie Glenn Goodwill.  He married Hazel Galford Judd July 2, 1947 and she survives.

A 1934 graduate of Townville High School, he retired from Talon in 1980 following 40 years of service in machine repair.

A Veteran of World War II, Forest served from 1941 to 1945 in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant.  He served as a crew chief on B-17 bombers in the 369th Squadron of the 306th Bombardment Group of the 8th Air Force stationed in Thurleigh, England.  He received the Legion of Merit Medal for his service.

While living in Crawford County, he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Meadville and Crawford Masonic Lodge 234.  He served on the board of supervisors of Woodcock Township for several years.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, boating, fishing, travelling, playing cards and spending time with friends and family.  He could fix anything and was often called on to do so.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Hazel of 64 years, include two daughters, Joan Judd Britt and her husband Robert Britt of Chadds Ford and Ida Goodwill Merritt and her husband Fiorenzo Bettoni of Denver, CO; a brother, Raymond Goodwill and his wife Naomi of Oil City; four grandchildren, Robert Britt and his wife Kristina of Memphis, TN, Laurin Britt Rossetti and her husband Andrew of Milford, DE, Steven Merritt and his wife Shannon of Colorado Springs, CO, and Scott Merritt and his wife Anna of Ridgecrest, CA; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leland Goodwill and a granddaughter, Karin Britt Knightly.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dave Brumagin officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
