Forrest L. Smith, 90, of North Street, Meadville, died Saturday, September 06, 2008 at the Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Townville August 22, 1918 a son of Stanley and Madge McDonald Smith. He married Genevieve I. Wykoff November 23, 1945 and she preceded him in death January 3, 2008.
He first worked briefly at Talon Inc., then at American Brake Shoe, then as an agent with Nationwide Insurance and also as a real estate agent. In his retirement he worked at Wolff’s Hardware.
He was a graduate of Townville High School and was a veteran of World War II with the US Army serving in Australia and New Guinea. He was a member of Huidekoper VFW Post #2006. He enjoyed gardening; visiting with his buddies at the McDonald’s Liars Club and at the Vets Club and especially enjoyed family functions.
Survivors, include a son, Charles Patrick Smith of Erie; two granddaughters, Heather Smith of Milwaukee, WI and Sally Smith of Cleveland; a sister, Mabel Connor of New Jersey; a brother, Harold Smith of Townville and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Genevieve of 62 years, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Bertram and three brothers, Francis, Gerald and Gilbert (Gib) Smith.
At Forrest’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
A graveside service in Kingsley Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
The family suggests memorials be made to Huidekoper VFW Post #2006, 1045 S. Morgan Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
