Frances (Fran) Dempsey

May 15, 1917 — March 14, 2002

Frances (Fran) Dempsey, 84, formerly of 218 Chestnut St., Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community since January 2, 2002, died there Thursday, March 14, 2002 following a period of declining health.

She was born May 15, 1917 in Sunville, Venango, County, a daughter of the late Lewis and Rachel Duplain Ribb.  She married Charles D. Dempsey November 13, 1937 and he preceded her in death November 28, 1986.

She was a 1935 graduate of Townville High School and received her Real Estate certification through Penn State University.  She worked as a Real Estate agent for 22 years for Bainbridge-Kaufman Real Estate, retiring in 1990.

She was a member of First Church of God, Meadville, was a former member and Sunday School teacher of Diamond United Methodist Church, and led a bible study group in Meadville for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith Bigler and her husband Jack of Bonita Springs, FL; a son, F. Michael Dempsey of Hood River, OR; a sister, Joan Culbertson of Cape Coral, FL; a brother, Lewis Ribb, Jr. of N. Fort Myers, FL; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Jack, Edmond, Paul, Bruce, and F. Orville Ribb and 4 sisters, Florence Howell, Helen Rickard, Wilma Loptein, and Mary Bunce.

Private Burial will be today at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.

A public memorial service will be at a date and time to be announced.

Memorials may be made to First Church of God, 13226 Leslie Rd., Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
