Frank Chase Layng, 87, of State College, formerly of Meadville, a former Talon vice president, died Monday, February 15, 1993, at the Foxdale Village Retirement Community in State College after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Greenville, December 15, 1905, a son of Frank R. and Belle Chase Layng. He married Alice McClelland, June 29, 1935. She survives.
He retired in 1970 as vice president and secretary of Talon after 43 years of service. He was a former member of Meadville Housing Corp., president of the former Meadville School Board in the 1950s, and was honored by WQLN television for his service as a member of the station's board of directors. He was a 1924 graduate of Penn High School, Greenville, and a 1928 graduate of Allegheny College. He was a member of the Meadville Roundtable, Meadville Country Club, Iroquois Club of Conneaut Lake, Sigma, Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and a past president of the Slide Fastener Assn. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. James (Margaret) Aldirch of Bryn Mawr; a son, Dr. Frank C. Layng, Jr. of State College; a brother, Dr. Edwin T. Layng of Summit, NJ; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn L. Miller.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
