Beloved father and grandfather, Frank Gaylord Ferlin, 87, a Cochranton resident, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 3, 2011. He was born in Meadville, November 30, 1923 to Helen L. (Van Horne) and Albert E. Ferlin. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” (Mills) Ferlin in 2008.
After graduation from Meadville High School, he served 5 years with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He then began working in the Engineering Department at the American Viscose Co., retiring in 1984 after 37 years of service. Mr. Ferlin served as a Sunday School teacher, Elder and Deacon at St. John’s United Church of Christ. He was Past Master of Meadville Masonic Lodge #408. For 10 years he was also on the Greenwood Twp./Conneaut Lake Joint School Board. Mr. Ferlin was a member of the Oil City Lodge of Perfection, New Castle Consistory and Zem Zem Shrine of Erie. He was a charter member/organizer of the Avtex Fogies which began meeting in 1984 with monthly retirement breakfasts.
Mr. Ferlin enjoyed fishing and hunting. After retirement, he took great pleasure in the game of golf. He especially enjoyed his winters in Florida where he shared good times with close friends.
Survivors include his three children: Douglas Ferlin and his wife Diana of Pickens, SC; Karen Ensworth of Towanda, PA and Linda Leonard of Cochranton. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Darla, Denise, Kyle, John, Lori and Rob and eight great grandchildren.
The memorial service will be Saturday, September 17th at 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. Services will begin with a Masonic Service by Lodge #408 then continue with Rev. Donald Engler, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
