Frank T. Garris

Frank T. Garris, 88, of Meadville, died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community following a period of declining health.

He was born December 20, 1923 in Apollo, a son of Francis (Frank) and Mae Powell Garris.  He married Joyce Butcher July 12, 1943 and she survives.

Frank was a graduate of Apollo High School and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy Pacific Theater of Operations from 1943 to 1946.  He was employed at Meadville Medical Center for 13 years as a trainer in the housekeeping department and previously worked at the Keystone Ordinance Works, Montgomery Ward Company, Westinghouse Corporation, and the John J. Shryock Company.

A member of Stone United Methodist Church, Frank was a red coat volunteer in retirement for 13 years at Meadville Medical Center in the pharmacy.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Joyce of 68 years, include a son Thomas R. Garris and his wife Dara of North Huntingdon; two grandchildren, Rachel Rogers and her husband Greg of Cary, NC and Carrie Conboy and her husband Mark of Pittsburgh; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Rogers and Parker and Quinn Conboy; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Jane Garris and three sisters, Thelma Garris, Frances Wilson, and Florence Gamble.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating and military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Post 2006, Meadville.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
