Franklin Moore Miller, 88, of Meadville and Inverness, FL, died Friday, February 9, 2001 with his family at home in Citrus County, where he and his wife have spent the past fifteen winters.
Franklin Miller was born in Meadville, November 26, 1913, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Miller, Jr. and Ethel Moore. He married Dorothy Brennen October 18, 1941 and she survives.
Mr. Miler was president and owner of Keystone Construction Company from 1944 to 1985. He graduated from Meadville High School in 1930 and Allegheny College in 1934. While at Allegheny, he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He was a long time member of the Unitarian Church, Crawford County Historical Society and the Advisory Board of Hillside Home. He was a member of Crawford Masonic Lodge #234, Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie and the Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie. He was a pilot for over 60 years and was a charter member of the National Pilots Assn., Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assn., American Bonanza Society and the Aviation Club of Erie. He received the Safe Pilot Award, for 6100 consecutive hours as pilot-in-command without an accident and for his contribution to the cause of aviation safety and growth, from the National Pilots Assn. He was a member of the Literary Union, a former member of Meadville Rotary Club, Director of the Contractors Assn. and also served many years on the Labor Committee. He also served on the board of directors of Dollar Savings Assn. and was past president of the Meadville YMCA, a member of the Board of Corporators of Meadville Medical Center, and the Executive Committee of Greendale Cemetery Assn. He also was a member of the Meadville County Club, Iroquois Boating and Fishing Club, Taylor Hose Co., Erie Yacht Club and the OX5 Aviation Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years; a son, Dr. Lohring S. Miller (Yayoe Kuramitsu) of Eugene, OR; a daughter, Danica Eskind (Andrew) of Rochester, NY; five grandchildren, Adam Miller, Jennifer Banks, Seraph Cortez, Sadie Miller and Benjamin Eskind; a sister, Shirley Ann Wermund of Austin, TX; three great-grandchildren and eight nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin F. Miller, III.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
