Fred B. Trace

July 13, 1893 — June 4, 1977

Fred B. Trace, 83, of Meadville, died Saturday, June 4, 1977, at United Methodist Nursing Hospital where he had been a patient for four years.

Born in Meadville, July 13, 1893, he was a son of Fred E. and Sarah Birch Trace.  He married Marian R. Johnston June 12, 1924.  A 1920, graduate of Allegheny College, he later took a masters degree in chemical engineering at Allegheny.  He was employed for six years in the testing lab for the former Erie Railroad, then worked for two years as principle and football coach at Chester, WV High School.

He retired in 1958 after 30 years with PPG Industries, last serving as superintendent of labor relations at the corporation's Works No. 9 in Crystal City, MO.  He came to Meadville in that year.

He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the US Army Air Corps.

He was a member and past master of Masonic Lodge 408; member and past high priest of Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191, member of NW Commandery 125, member of Zem Zem Shrine Temple, member of Scottish Rite Consistory at St. Louis.

A former member of St. Louis Council, Boy Scouts of America, he had received  the Silver Beaver Beaver Award, the highest council honor in scouting.  He was a past president and served as secretary for many years of Meadville Rotary Club.

Survivors, in addition to his widow, include two sons, James J. Trace of Brentwood, MO and Fred B. Trace, Jr. of Meadville; a sister, Mrs. Francis Tomlinson of Jamestown, NY; six grandchildren; two nephews and one niece.

A son, Robert, preceded him in death.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was a Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
