Fred J. Kaufman, 86, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since March 1993, died there Friday, November 16, 2001 following a decline in health since April.
He was born in Venango, PA June 19, 1915 a son of Jacob C. and Lucy M. Gahring Kaufman. He married Genevieve Williams August 29, 1936 and she preceded him in death September 19, 1977. He subsequently married Marie Miller September 15, 1988 and she survives.
He retired in 1979 from Penelec as chief meter-man after 38 years of employment. He was a 1933 graduate of Meadville High School and was a member of its 1933 undefeated football team. He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ and a former Church Deacon. He was also a member of the AARP, active at the Senior Center and a former member of the 21 Plus Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: a daughter, Carol Pressey and her husband Paul of Saegertown; a son, Daniel F. Kaufman and his wife Karen of Saegertown; a sister, Joan Baker of Scottsdale, AZ; three grandchildren, Dawn Heflin, Philip Kaufman and Kimberly Boozell and three great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville
The funeral and committal service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
