Fred M. McCooey, 83, of 458 Stewart Lane, Meadville and formerly of 16342 Middle Road, Meadville died Sunday, September 11, 2005 at the Meadville Medical Center.
He was born November 4, 1921 in Meadville a son of Melvin and Mae Pike McCooey. He married Edna M. Anderhalt September 7, 1957 and she survives.
He was a 1941 graduate of Meadville High School and a veteran of World War II with the us Navy serving on the USS Fond du Lac as a Fireman 1st Class in the Pacific Theater. He retired in 1983 as a journeyman machinist after 41 years of service on the railroad: first as the Erie Railroad, then the Erie-Lackawanna and finally with Conrail.
He attended First Christian Church. And he enjoyed trips to Conneaut Lake Park, reading, golf, bowling, his grandchildren and his pets.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: one daughter, Pamela S. Thompson and her husband Gary of Meadville; two grandchildren, Kelly A. Thompson and Darren M. Thompson, both at home; a brother-in-law, Robert L. Anderhalt of Meadville; three nephews, Roger Williams and his wife Betty of Saegertown, Roy Williams and his wife Sally of Meadville and Charles McCooey his wife Pat of Tampa, FL; two nieces, Jean Harvey of Meadville and Pat Hindle and her husband Greg of Conneaut Lake and many great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Flossie Williams Fisher, Thelma Emerson, Gladys Born Perry and Cassie McCooey; one brother, John McCooey; one niece, Betty Steiger and one nephew, Karl Williams.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Dr. Terry Clark, Pastor of First Christian Church, officiating.
Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorial be made to First Christian Church, 503 N. Main Street, Meadville or Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
