Fred R. Miller, 91, of 1120 Market St., Meadville died Friday, January 5, 2007 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
He was born April 17, 1915 in Mercer, a son of the late Watt K. and Florence May Mecklem Miller. He married Annabel Shaw April 23, 1938 and she preceded him in death June 2, 1999.
He was a graduate of Mercer High School and a 1937 graduate of Grove City College with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked at Talon for 12 years in the 1960s as an electrician and subsequently worked for Corry Manufacturing for 15 years as head of maintenance and was also self-employed as a radio repairman. In retirement, he performed electrical work at a trailer park in Florida.
He was a Ham Radio operator, enjoyed various types of electronics, and took up computers at the age of 85.
Survivors include 2 sons, Raymond E. Miller and his wife Judy of Meadville and John W. Miller of Corry; a son-in-law, David Fleming of Union City; a brother, LaMont K. Miller and his wife Mary of Beecher City, IL; 3 grandchildren, Barbara Symons, Dawn Smith, and Timothy Fleming; and 9 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth D., Dayna C., and Monica G. Symons, Timothy A. Fleming, II, Trevor A., Tyler A., and Taryn A. Fleming, and Madelene R. and Colten James Smith. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ella May Fleming; an infant daughter, Yvonne K. Miller; a son, James Watt Miller; and a sister, Gertrude J. Miller.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where a funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Mercer Citizens Cemetery, Mercer.
