Fred T. Ewing

November 23, 1952 — October 8, 2004

Fred T. Ewing, 51 of West Mead Twp., Meadville and formerly of Corry, died Friday, October 8, 2004 at his residence.

He was born in Meadville, November 23, 1952, a son of Orlo A. and Ruth Gilbert Ewing.

He was a graduate of Shaker Heights High School, Shaker Heights, OH and a 1975 graduate of Allegheny College.  Following college he moved to Illinois to learn the Hog and grain farming business.  He then returned to the Linesville area to start his own farm.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Meadville and a former church Deacon.  He was a member of the PA Farm Bureau, the Conservation Board, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) (now the Farm Service Agency) and served for 6 years on the Crawford County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.  He conducted field checks for the ASCS.  He received the Conservation Farmer of the Year award several years and he conducted a very successful membership drive for the PA Farm Bureau.  He was also active politically, lobbying both in Harrisburg and Washington for farm and agricultural legislation.

He loved the outdoors, the land, farming and agriculture.  He also truly enjoyed the people he met through agriculture.  But, he especially loved his two children.

Survivors, include two teenage children, Jessica Anne Ewing and Chad David Ewing both of Meadville and one sister, Dr. Jane E. Woods of Corry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orlo A. and Ruth G. Ewing and one brother, David Karl Ewing.

Calling hours will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen, Pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
