Frederic Alton Wagner

Frederick Alton Wagner, 71, of Meadville died Friday, September 17, 2010 at home.  He was born in Meadville, September 23, 1938 a son of Alton and Mable Rung Wagner.  He married Patricia Simms November 18, 1961 and she survives.

He first worked for a year on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad in Youngstown, then for ten years at Robert M. Powers, CPA.  In January 1974 he took office as the Crawford County Treasurer and was elected to ten consecutive four year terms.

He was a 1956 graduate of Cochranton High School.  He then attended Penn State University and graduated in 1965 from Allegheny College with a BA in Economics with a minor in accounting.

He was a member of St. Marks United Church of Christ and he also attended First Presbyterian Church.  He was a member of Meadville Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge #408, Scottish Rite Bodies, Meadville Elks Lodge #219 and Meadville Sertoma Club.  He was an avid softball player and was the oldest actively playing member in the area.  He enjoyed hunting, golfing, spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Patricia, of 49 years, include: two sons, Keith Wagner and his wife Tana of Milton, GA and Kevin Wagner and his wife Lisa of Harrisburg; five granddaughters, Christana, Victoria, Faith, Olivia and Katelyn; two brothers, Bernard Wagner and his wife Rowena of Cochranton and David Wagner and his wife Toni of Meadville; a sister, Diane O'Palka and her husband Leonard of Manistee, MI and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville and Tuesday from 10 - 11 a.m. at St. Marks United Church of Christ, 6650 Franklin Pike, Cochranton, PA.

The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Marks United Church of Christ with Rev. Russell Hines, Pastor of the church and Rev. Dr. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery.
