Freida Louise Gordon, 72, of Guys Mills, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at her residence following a period of declining health.
She was born October 24, 1927 in Salem Township, New Alexandria, Westmoreland County. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Elmer and Mae Susanna Bash Fennel. She married Robert Charles Gordon, June 28, 1957 and he preceded her in death March 25, 1977.
She was a 1945 graduate of Saltsburg High School, Saltsburg, where she was valedictorian of her class. She worked as a grocery store clerk for 4 1/2 years, a bookkeeper for various automobile dealership that sold new vehicles in Saltsburg and New Alexandria for 8 1/2 years, a notary public for 12 years in Westmoreland County, a dairy farmer with her husband for many years, and she was a homemaker raising ten children. She and her husband were 4-H leaders in Venango County for many years. She was an avid sports fan especially that of Pittsburgh teams.
She was a member of Fenneltown United Church of Christ, Fenneltown.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Elmer Gordon (Ida) of Slippery Rock, William Charles Gordon (Beth) of Titusville and John Brice Gordon (Pam) of Titusville; seven daughters, Clarabel Laune Zaginaylo (John) of Berwick, Lewrose Myers (John) of Townville, Margery Grace Gordon of Guys Mills, Betty Louella Clark (Rick) of Conneaut Lake, Florence Hazel Gordon of Meadville, Caroline Mae Gordon of McLane, VA and Mildred Louise Brown (John) of Conneautville; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Chapmanville Cemetery.
